I
was born in Rome in 1963. Photography entered into my life in a rather
occasional and discreet
way in the beginning but later it became a dominant interest which involved
me more and more.
At first, like as many others, I took pictures of everything both in colour
and in black and white
indiscriminately. Later on, as photography became gradually more and more
important to me,
the choice expressing myself in black and white became inevitable. I do
some work in theatre photography, but
it is in “human reporting” that captures my interest and gives
me most inspiration.
I have developed as a photographer through much reading, but more important
has been visiting
numerous exhibitions. For me taking pictures is a style of being, a philosophy,
a way of life.
I feel alive when I am taking pictures. Photography is not the profession
which ensures my livelihood;
it is rather a way of expressing myself. I love to choose themes and subjects
which require
in-depth preparation, the ultimate goal being to hold exhibitions and
to prepare publications.
But above all, I take pictures for the deep pleasure which this gives
me. In an era in which everything seems
to be moving towards a digital future, with undeniable advantages for
some sectors of photography,
I personally do not feel any need in my field of action to go in this
direction and I am not
sensitive to digital charm. I just know that each time I take out the
base plate from my Leica to insert
a new film is a magical moment, and it makes me feel very excited. In
any case, I think there is space for everyone. Andrea Moneta
